Strength and Deformational Characteristics of Concrete Beams Reinforced with Steel Bars Locally Produced from Recycled Metal Scrap in Ghana

This study was conducted to examine the structural behavior of concrete beams reinforced with local steel bars available in Ghana. The prepared from conventional materials ordinary Portland-limestone cement, pit sand and granitic stones. Steel sizes 12mm, 10mm, 8mm different millers used reinforce were tested stress-strain relationship bars. main reinforcing comprised 12mm high tensile mild produced by four companies. companies which these obtained are Ferro Fabric Limited (FFL), United Company (USC), Sentuo (STS) Fabrimetal (FAB). specific objectives this determine actual strength (steel nominal 10mm millers), stress- strain bars, ultimate limit state characteristics investigate deformational behaviour (i.e., cracking, deflection).
 Data collected analyzed using theoretical experimental approaches. results confirmed analysis that indicated governing failure loads due yielding first exception one beam load shear. On average cracking high-yield slightly higher than loads, while they observed be lower With regard FFL ribbed developed highest number cracks at represent a very good bonding between as compared other Beams FAB had steels. It is important ensure standardization rebars Ghanaian market such size bar, rib spacing, height through dissemination information stakeholders including material engineering manufacturing contractors.
